Why Single-Ingredient Formulas Are Rarer Than You'd Think
July 13, 2026 · 3 min read
Check the ingredient list on most supplement labels and you will usually find more than the headline ingredient—flavoring agents, anti-caking agents, sweeteners, sometimes preservatives. A genuinely single-ingredient formula, where the label and the jar match exactly, is less common than people assume.
Why brands add extra ingredients
Some additions serve a real function—flavor makes a product easier to take, anti-caking agents extend shelf life in humid climates. Others exist mainly to mask a lower-quality raw ingredient, or to cut costs by bulking out the actual active dose.
Why we kept Unmade to one ingredient
Unflavored, single-ingredient marine collagen means there is nothing to evaluate except the collagen itself—no flavoring system, no fillers, nothing added to make up for a lower-quality base material. It is a harder formula to make taste "invisible," but it is a more honest one to put on a label. One 10 g scoop of Unmade is over 92% protein by weight—the rest is naturally occurring, not padded out with anything else.
