Common Collagen Myths, Addressed Plainly
July 18, 2026 · 4 min read
Collagen is a genuinely well-studied structural protein, but the way it gets talked about online often outruns what is actually established. A few of the most common claims, addressed directly.
"Collagen supplements work instantly"
No supplement works instantly on a structural protein that turns over gradually in the body. Anyone implying same-day or same-week dramatic change is not being straight with you.
"All collagen sources are identical"
Not quite—source (marine, bovine, porcine), collagen type, and processing method all vary meaningfully, even though the underlying protein family is the same. See our marine-vs-bovine breakdown for specifics.
"More collagen is always better"
There is no strong evidence that exceeding a standard daily serving accelerates anything. A consistent, moderate daily amount—ours is 10 g—is the more defensible approach than mega-dosing.
"You will notice results within days"
This is the myth we hear most. See our timeline piece for a more honest window—it is measured in weeks and months, not days, and individual results vary.
